JMIR Dermatology Becomes the Official Journal of the International Society of Teledermatology

JMIR Publications

(Philadelphia, October 14, 2021) JMIR Publications is proud to announce that the International Society of Teledermatology (ISTD) has partnered with JMIR Dermatology to be the official journal of the society. This agreement continues the exciting pace of JMIR Dermatology’s growth since its launch in 2018 while advancing the visibility and mission of ISTD, one of the first societies dedicated to expanding digital delivery of dermatology care.

This partnership with ISTD connects JMIR Dermatology to a board of international thought leaders dedicated to the advancement of teledermatology, and we look forward to supporting ISTD’s members through offering a home for the society’s position papers and other publications. Under the agreement, ISTD can offer its members discounts on article publication fees and Knowledge Translation services, and engage with its members through Online Journal Club reviews of articles they have submitted to JMIR Dermatology, where reviewers meet to discuss a manuscript in real time, building a community and supporting Open Science practices.

Dr Amanda Oakley, president of ISTD, says: “With the necessary surge in the adoption of teledermatology in assessing patients through the pandemic, the International Society of Teledermatology has been keen to find a partner well-positioned to help us reach more practitioners than ever. We’re also very excited to offer our members some excellent new benefits around their research activities.”

As part of this agreement, the annual ISTD Congress (now in its ninth year!) will have all presentation abstracts published in Iproceedings, as well as allowing the society to nominate an editorial board member from their constituency. This board member will advise on the direction of the journal, promote the journal to the society, and coordinate any future theme issues the society is interested in pursuing.

Dr. Robert Dellavalle, editor-in-chief of JMIR Dermatology, says: “I am personally very excited about the global reach of the International Society of Teledermatology. As a publication dedicated to the accessibility and impartiality of science, connecting the perspectives of researchers interested in the intersection of technology and dermatology around the world is a wonderful opportunity.”

We encourage you to learn more about the International Society of Dermatology and the growing benefits of membership, and to attend this year’s congress. The 9th World Congress on Teledermatology will be held virtually on December 9-10, 2021, and focuses on the use of artificial intelligence in detecting and identifying skin diseases.
